What Colorado School of Mines can be.

Why the Colorado School of Mines (CSM)?

College was a necessity for me, not because I was forced to do so but to break a barrier for my family. I am a first-generation college student and I strive to make the most out of my education. Through classes, field experience, and research I hope to acquire the technical skills I need to impact the people who give so much to others.

Personal Project Work

Fortunately, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside a medical transportation company in developing transit-scheduling integration software. Based in Colorado, Med-Lift offered me an opportunity to work in the space I most desire. The chance to develop software that directly effects people and the chance to understand the dynamic between what a company and costumer need was invaluable.

Why the Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP)?

My identity has been important to me since I was old enough to understand it. As I moved away from Oklahoma to pursue my education, I leapt into a new world full of people from disparate backgrounds I didn’t understand. MEP has been and still remains my gateway into becoming a more holistically understanding person.

Technical Abilities

Although I am still learning (a junior), I’ve spent my time in classes fairly well, learning various coding languages (Python, C++, Java, etc.). In addition CSM does a thorough job of prepping its students in team-development, SOLID, and AGILE principles.

Why the McBride Honors Program?

A STEM college such at the Colorado School of Mines is many things, but a teacher of the human experience it often is not. To make a conscious effect on our planet, it’s essential to understand not just technical work, but to develop the soft skills to best work with the people, places, and possibilities around me.
